Remote Access in Banking and Finance

The first question here is not how to configure it but whether it is permitted at all — regulation and network isolation decide the shape.

Updated

Finance differs from every other industry on this menu in one fundamental way: the first question is not “how do we configure it” but “are we allowed to”.

Establish whether a cloud service is permitted

Production networks in banking, securities and insurance carry explicit regulatory requirements and security grading. Whether an external service may connect, and to which layer, belongs to internal security and compliance — not to IT selection alone.

So step one in this industry is taking the deployment shape to compliance, not evaluating features. Any feature comparison done before that answer may be wasted.

If cloud is not permitted

On-premises deployment is the most likely landing point here. The server sits inside your own network and data does not leave it.

Worth stating plainly: this is not a standard package. Because it involves network environment, compliance requirements and operational ownership, the specific shape is arranged through a separate conversation. That means a longer lead time than buying a standard edition — build it into the project schedule rather than discovering it after evaluation.

If it is permitted, audit is the floor

Audit in finance is not “we can look it up if something goes wrong”; it is a standing requirement.

Connection logs, file transfer records, automatic session recording, and recording playback all start at the Team edition. But as in healthcare, records are not compliance — the real question is whether they can be pulled into the audit systems you already run. If they cannot, they are one more place someone has to check separately.

The REST API is pull-based, so the scheduled job lives on your side; see embedding remote control in your own product.

Branch endpoints

If it is permitted, managing branch endpoints looks a lot like retail chains: many sites, widely distributed, no dedicated IT per site, maintenance outside opening hours. That practice is in store endpoint management for retailthe difference is the strictness of compliance, not the technical shape.

One honest note

This page offers less certainty than the others, because the decision does not sit with the product. If your compliance function has already ruled out external remote access, then it is ruled out — there is no point comparing features. Look instead at whether the on-premises route is viable.
